Timescapes: Perspective on Time through Hand Stitch
Wednesday (UK)
Online via Zoom
Please read the 'Important Booking Information' below before booking this Talk.
Description
In this talk, Richard reflects on hand embroidery as a way of making time visible. Drawing on works from his practice, he explores how repeated, slow marks can record duration, presence and the body at work, with each stitch acting as a unit of time and attention. The lecture moves between different scales of time: from the seconds of a single stitch to the hours and months held in a finished piece, to the much longer timescales of material, place and memory. It looks at process as much as outcome, and at drawing that happens through thread rather than line.
