Stitches in Time: Reconstructing Historic Dress
Wednesday (UK)
Online via Zoom
Please read the 'Important Booking Information' below before booking this Talk.
Description
In this talk Ninya Mikhaila tells the story of how she came to work in such a niche area of costume making. From a love of history, and a family background in tailoring and textiles, through a discovery of living history and study at The London College of Fashion to setting up her own business at nineteen years old. Ninya shares the research and making processes behind some of her most memorable commissions. These include sumptuous and richly embellished garments made for costumed guides at Hampton Court Palace and clothing for Harry Lloyd as Richard III in The Lost King Film as well as the more challenging reconstructions of everyday dress which can include a surprising level of complex construction and decorative detailing.
