Cottage Garden - Butterfly with Chrissie Juno Mann

Based in Hampshire, Chrissie Juno Mann has been stitching since childhood. She holds an MA in Conservation and Restoration of the Decorative Arts, which she followed with training at the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace, specialising in the historical art of hand embroidery. Chrissie graduated with Distinction and continues to work as a tutor for the RSN.Chrissie primarily runs her own embroidery business, Cloud Juno, working as a freelance embroiderer and tutor across the UK and internationally. She creates her own designs and kits, runs workshops and retreats and has developed an international online community of stitchers through her regular Zoom classes. She has published three books: 50 Blackwork Patterns: Book 1, 50 Blackwork Patterns: Book 2 and Jacobean Crewelwork Motifs.Alongside teaching, Chrissie continues to develop her own portfolio of embroidery. In 2017, she won a church kneeler design competition for the Worshipful Company of Broderers, with her design made into a kneeler and presented to St Olave’s Church, Hart Street, London. In 2018, she won the Raised Embroidery category of an international competition run in conjunction with Inspirations Magazine and the Beating Around the Bush convention.In 2022, her work Bottled Curiosity was included in the Worshipful Company of Broderers’ The Art of Embroidery exhibition at Bankside Gallery in London and her work will return to the gallery in 2027 as part of the Fragile Threads exhibition. In 2023, her hand-embroidered Blackwork portrait Ayanna was awarded third place in the international Mr X Stitch competition. In 2024, her Stumpwork box An English Sonnet was displayed at Parham House & Gardens.Through her work, Chrissie aims to encourage the art of hand embroidery and make it accessible to a wide audience, while continuing to develop her own practice and capture nature and the beauty of the world around us through needle and thread.
