Butterflies and Dragonflies with Foiling and Embroidery with Charlotte Krone

Your course will be taught by textile designer Charlotte Krone alongside expert Royal School of Needlework Tutors, bringing together silk painting, surface design and specialist hand beading. Charlotte is the Creative Director of http://www.rediscoveredby.com (@charlottekrone_studio), an independent textile and wallpaper studio specialising in the research, revival and contemporary reinterpretation of historical textile techniques. Trained in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London, with further study at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia, her practice is rooted in material exploration, historical research and traditional craft. Working across print, embroidery, weaving and surface design, Charlotte draws inspiration from museum collections, historic archives and the natural world. During the course, Charlotte will teach you how to create the silk-painted foundation for the design, introducing her approach to colour, composition and working directly onto silk. Once the painted base has been created, your Royal School of Needlework Tutors will guide you through the hand beading elements of the design. All of our tutors have trained through the RSN’s specialist training programmes and bring professional embroidery experience into the classroom. You will learn how to build texture and detail over the painted surface using specialist hand beading and embellishment techniques, combining the two processes to create a layered textile piece. Charlotte has collaborated with heritage organisations and specialist makers including Gainsborough Weaving, Burghley House and Knots Rugs. Her work has also been featured in Homes & Gardens, The World of Interiors, Period Living, Tatler, Country Living and The Times.
