Explore the colourful world of hand Passementerie weaving with artist and heritage craft specialist Elizabeth Ashdown. Passementerie is an endangered craft in the UK, making this a special opportunity to learn from one of the country’s few remaining Passementerie artists. Traditionally used to create decorative ribbons, trimmings, braids, cords and fringes, Passementerie brings together colour, texture and pattern through intricate hand weaving techniques. During the workshop, you will learn the introductory skills needed to begin creating your own contemporary Passementerie, whether your interests lie in interiors, accessories, fashion or textile art. You will create four different handwoven designs, with each piece introducing a different technique and approach to pattern and texture. You will also learn how to make your own hand-spun cords using traditional methods, giving you another technique to incorporate into future projects. No previous experience of weaving or Passementerie is required.
