Course Description

Roses are the theme for this workshop, and Anne will guide you through the making of all the elements of a multi-petaled English rose that she hasn’t taught before. Amongst many techniques you will be making a unique hidden structure that will contain and sew in to place, the smaller, inner pleated petals. You will spend these three days learning to make all the individual parts of each flower including the calyx and leaves to capture their natural beauty.

You will also learn how to stiffen silk, mix dyes to make the perfect shades, learn to layer colours, painting with them to create a naturalistic look.

Shaping petals involves a wide range of heated french and Japanese tools to create texture and form. Hiding wires between layers of silk for the petals and leaves helps create a support for the structure, and binding stems with flat silk create a fabric-like effect.

There will be lots of tips and tricks and hands on individual help, enabling everyone to understand and create beautiful flowers. Each element will be broken down in to clear, and easy to understand stages, interspersed with demonstrations. You’ll be provided with templates, a worksheet, photos for reference, and a kit. By the end of the workshop you will have gained the skills and knowledge to go away and experiment with making many other flowers observing for yourself all the intricacies that nature has to offer.

What you will need to bring

All of the specialist materials and equipment required for the course will be provided for you. We recommend bringing a notebook and pen if you would like to make notes throughout the course. And if you have a favourite mug, feel free to bring it along for your refreshment breaks!
