Mistletoe in Goldwork Embroidery

Spend two days at the Royal School of Needlework learning Goldwork embroidery through a festive mistletoe design.

Goldwork is prized as an embroidery technique for the way metal threads catch the light and create sparkle. In this course, you will use a range of Goldwork materials and techniques to bring the mistletoe design to life.

You will begin by learning how to apply padding to create a raised foundation for the Goldwork. From here, you will explore the different characteristics of materials used for filling and those used for line work, learning how they are handled and applied within the design.

For the line work, you will work with Pearl Purl and Passing Thread and learn how to apply them accurately. You will also learn S-ing, a Goldwork technique that creates a wrapped, rope-like effect.

Pearls will be added to the design to create the mistletoe berries and introduce another material alongside the metal threads.

Across the two days, you will build an understanding of the core Goldwork techniques used within the design and how different materials can be combined to create line, texture and dimension.

Suitable for those new to Goldwork as well as those looking to develop their existing skills.
