Tambour Beading with Justine Bonenfant

Discover the fundamentals of Tambour Beading in this five-day course, exploring the hook technique used to create intricate embroidery for haute couture, fashion and interiors.

You will begin by setting up and tensioning a slate frame with silk organza before learning how to cast on and off and create the Tambour Chain Stitch that forms the foundation for the techniques that follow.

As your confidence with the Tambour hook develops, you will learn how to apply beads, bugles and sequins, work clean corners and fill shapes with metallic thread. You will progress to working with cut danas and bugle beads, explore appliqué using Rich Stitch and learn how to create discontinuous lines in both beads and sequins.

During the final stages of the course, you will explore Vermicelli worked in thread and sequins, create three-dimensional motifs and learn Flea Stitch and Aari Stitch, building a varied collection of couture embroidery techniques.

By the end of the five days, you will have created a detailed sample showcasing the full range of techniques covered and developed a strong understanding of how Tambour Beading can be used to build texture, detail and dimension within couture and interior embroidery.
