Holly & Berries in Goldwork Embroidery

Explore Goldwork embroidery at the Royal School of Needlework through our brand new festive holly and berries design.

Goldwork is prized as an embroidery technique for the way metal threads catch the light and create sparkle. In this course, you will use a range of Goldwork materials and techniques to bring the holly and berries design to life.

You will explore the different characteristics of Goldwork materials used for filling and those used for line work, learning how they are handled and applied within the design.

For the line work, you will work with Pearl Purl and Passing Thread, learning how to apply them accurately and use them to define different areas of the design.

Pearls will also be incorporated to add detail alongside the metal threads.

Across the day, you will build an understanding of the core Goldwork techniques used within the design and how different materials can be combined to create line, texture and detail.
