Course Description
Inspired by the symbolic eye motifs featured in my signature piece The Tears of Saint Clare, this class explores contemporary approaches to traditional Goldwork techniques through the creation of a wearable brooch. Students will learn how to prepare the design before creating the eye motif using a combination of couched metal threads, purls, and cutwork techniques. The piece will be embellished with a faceted gemstone and finished with a suspended glass teardrop detail. Finally, students will learn how to mount and finish the embroidery as a wearable brooch using a roll-over clasp fastening. Alongside technical embroidery skills, we will explore symbolism, devotional imagery and contemporary storytelling within embroidery practice. By the end of the class students will have completed a meaningful, eye-catching keepsake and gained confidence in Goldwork techniques including couching, cutwork and applied finishing methods.
